It has been a long day today and we still have to go to the airport after dinner for our flight home.
We set off at 7:30 and stopped for coffee along the way. I had asked if we were going to the Pinwalla Elephant Orphanage and as everyone was interested they added it to the itinerary. We got there about 11:15 and got a table at a restaurant for lunch. We spent lunch overlooking a river where they bring the elephants for a bath, then we ate and then went to the orphanage to watch bottle feeding time for the small ones. There are about 70 total and they are also breeding them.
We then carried on to Colombo and a drive by tour of the town. We stopped at the oldest hotel (1864), The Galle, where we had a beer overlooking the Indian Ocean. We then checked into our hotel, The Kingsbury (possibly the most luxurious yet). We are having dinner at 7 and have to be ready for the airport at 9:30.
Our flight leaves at 1:00 a.m. And it will be a long journey home, an 11 hour flight followed by an 8.5 hour one.
We will be back in Toronto Monday lunchtime.
