Today was a really, really early start - we left the hotel at 6:45. We drove into Papeete to catch the 8 a.m. ferry crossing to the island of Moorea. This was the island we’ve been looking at, across the water from our previous hotel. It was a straightforward crossing of about 30 minutes, and our drivers were waiting for us when we arrived. We split into two groups and jumped into the backs of two pickup trucks, with some bench seating. We drove on the coast road and stopped a few times for some photos and information, and also a pineapple farm.
We continued on to the hotel, another beautiful resort, and had some lunch before going on a three-hour dolphin and whale watching boat trip. We saw a mother and calf humpback whale, then another mother, calf and a third whale. The were just chilling and resting on the water, occasionally blowing through their spout. We didn’t see any dolphins but the guide had seen several of them. It had started to rain a bit and we were getting quite wet so we headed back in. The tour had started from a dock at the hotel. We had about an hour to get ready for dinner, which was at a nice restaurant just down the road.
