Mon/Tue May 6/7 - Getting there

Today we leave on another adventure. Red Car pickup to take us to Toronto airport, where we will meet Blair, our Tour Manager, for the trip. There will be others at the airport too, how many I don’t know, but the group size will be 36 which is the largest group we’ve travelled with for many years. We are used to a maximum of 18, and often only 12-15, so it will be interesting.

Our evening flight from Toronto to Heathrow is the first leg, about 7 hours on British Airways. We have a two hour layover before the second flight (next day) from Heathrow to St Helier, Jersey, which is about an hour away. Then a short journey to check-in at the hotel, our home base for eleven nights. We get the remainder of the afternoon off before meeting the group for our Welcome Dinner. The majority of the group seem to be from Ontario, and some from B.C., Alberta and Manitoba.

We’ve grabbed our stash of English Pounds, which is the local currency in Jersey too, so very handy as they need using up! Also our English plug adapter, I almost feel like I’m going for a holiday to England, except strangely, we won’t be visiting family or friends.

We sampled the local brew at the hotel bar before dinner, it is a decent IPA called Waverider.

The hotel is quite large, but basic, it has several bars and restaurants, our buffet dinner tonight was good - I can see I’m going to have to restrain myself. We had a walk around the neighborhood after dinner as it was far too early to turn in, but an early night is called for after two days of travelling and a time difference of five hours.
